gothbench7

The Gothbench series is an ever-growing collection of gothically correct tiling background patterns. They are designed to give your computer desktop a darker look and feel. The patterns are free for personal use. Share and enjoy.

Trivia

  • Gothbench is named after the Amiga's desktop software, Workbench.
  • gothbenchV is being released 21 years after gothbench4.
  • gothbench4 and earlier installments were targeted at older lower resolution displays and so are not available here.
  • Gothbench I was released in 1996 for the Amiga only. It was sorta horrible.
  • Gothbench II was a major improvement and was also available for Macintosh (with the generous help of Dr. Chris Cooley) and Windows.
  • gothbenchV includes some select patterns from previous installments re-jiggered or re-created for today's higher resolution monitors.
  • gothbenchV and gothbench6 are being released at the same time.
  • gothbench6 may be the slightly superior product, but gothbenchV has twice as many patterns (50). Luckily, you don't have to choose.
  • gothbenchV and onward are entirely synthetic and resolution agnostic, with three exceptions in gothbenchV: Lenore2 (crinkled plastic wrap), Leather2 (my faux leather briefcase) and Bereavement (scanned and re-tiled lace).
  • gothbench7 was completed in just a week.
  • gothbench8 was also completed in around a week.
